Worm Control & Worm Cast Removal
While there are definitely some benefits to having earthworms in your garden, the worm casts that they leave on the surface can be a bit of an eyesore. If you’re a gardener who’s keen to maintain a beautifully manicured lawn, the muddy soil piles that the earthworms create have to go!
What Are Worm Casts?
Worm casts are the little piles of soil that are created when earthworms dig down to create their burrows. The soil is expelled through their digestive system and onto your lawn – yuck!
As the infestation of worms spreads, the number of worm casts on your lawn increases. If left un-checked, the worm casts will ruin the appearance of your lawn, and can make it lumpy/uneven. If you think you’ve got too many worm casts on your lawn, we can help you remove them.

What worm cast treatments are available?
There are a few different methods we can use to control worm casts on your lawn. Our experienced technicians will assess the problem during your FREE lawn survey and will recommend the most appropriate treatment for you.
Lower soil pH- Earthworms tend to favour alkaline soil, so reducing the pH and making the soil more acidic can help reduce the number of worm casts on your lawn.
Remove organic matter - Earthworms feed on organic matter like fallen leaves and grass clippings. Removing these from the lawn will help to control the worm casts.
Top dressing- Top dressing your soil with sand makes it less appealing to earthworms. In addition, it will improve soil aeration and stimulate grass growth. Top dressing also helps even out lumps caused by the worm casts.
How do I stop worm casts from coming back?
The key to reducing worm casts on your lawn long-term is garden maintenance. Earthworms favour lawns that are damp and compact, so keeping on top of lawn aeration and scarification can help keep your lawn dry and worm-free.
